Engagement
Retirement opens up a world of possibilities and one of those is the opportunity to give back and make a positive impact on your community. However, finding meaningful ways in which to get involved isn’t always easy. Engaging in social impact and community service projects are a great way to engage with others while making a difference in the world. Social impact means any significant or positive changes that solve or at least address social injustice and challenges such as poverty, inequality, health, education, food scarcity, homelessness, gun control, etc. Social impact projects are different from volunteering for an organization, though volunteerism is important too. Social impact projects usually result in some sort of societal change meaning that the outcome will benefit people.
Unfortunately, the need to carry out social and community projects is greater than ever before. Inequalities have increased in our societies and affect at least 70% of the global population. Even if you don’t feel you have the resources to tackle big problems on your own, social and community projects help to build strong communities while enabling individuals to forge new relationships. People coming together to work toward a shared common goal can be a truly rewarding experience and provides participants with a sense of purpose. Taking part in creating social and community projects can have a profound impact on both the community and you.
